“Le cose ritrovate” is a project born in parallel with an environmental reclamation program carried out along the “Strada Panoramica” in Palazzolo Acreide—a road of historical and scenic significance that winds for about two kilometers along the perimeter of the “Archaeological Area of Akrai”, an ancient Greek town founded in 663 BC. This road and its historical and natural beauties had been left to neglect and decay, turning into a sort of open-air dump. In December 2018, I began clearing the area to free the ruins of the past from the ruins of the present, aiming to shine a spotlight on that place in the hope of raising awareness about respect for the environment. Over the course of several months, I collected and sorted the most varied types of waste. Some of these items, however, appeared different to my eyes: not mere abandoned trash, but objects, materials, and things capable of telling stories and evoking emotions—to the point that I couldn't bring myself to throw them into the bag as ordinary garbage. These objects—found, indeed—became the focus of this photographic project.
